How Your Website Could Scream “Bad Business” to Potential Customers
Believe it or not, 81% of shoppers conduct online research before buying. That means, before someone has gone to your store, restaurant or website, they’re checking you out… they’re checking you out and making a snap judgment about your website in as little as 15 seconds or less..

Your 15-Second Interview
Assume that 15 seconds is all you get, because you need to make an impact and you need to make it quick. So, go to your website right now, take a look and ask yourself – how is my company showing up right now? Does the design of your website fall into any of these categories?
My website looks like it’s from the 90’s or early 00’s. (see the example image on the left above).
My website has a lot of large words on it that can only be understood by a college graduate. It is not at a 7th grade reading level.
My website’s content is out of date.
My website uses graphics that I pulled off of Google Search.
My website is built by my money mailer service.
I don’t have a website.
If you agree with any of the above, I want you to make your website a top priority. If you aren’t seeing a lot of customers, this may be one reason that new customers aren’t coming in.
Think about the last time you needed some work done on your car or maybe you wanted to go see a movie. You drive by the place to see what it looks like and it’s run down, looks like it hasn’t been touched in years and has old paint and it looks like the owners just don’t care enough about their place… and if they can’t put effort or care into their own place, what makes you think that they’re going to put care or quality effort into your car or into your service at the movies?
Your competitors might have nicer websites than you do. If you want to compete, you need to make sure that you compete in quality…everywhere. I read somewhere once something along the lines of,”Businesses have two of the following: Low Price, Great Quality or Great Service. If you see a low price, chances are you’re missing out on something great.”

Poor quality can rear its head in anything your business touches. Your website, your advertising, your customer service, your ratings and your marketing materials.
The sad thing that I see, more often than not, is that in addition to a High Price, I also see poor quality in their marketing. You have to have at least two of the three things in that quote for your business model to make sense to your customers. There are several small businesses who have some fantastic food, but when it comes to the ease of reading their website or finding information about them online, it becomes an annoying expedition. Worse yet, anything they do post may look messy, poorly written and/or rushed.
It’s not a small business owner’s fault that they may lack the skill to create a high-impact and revenue generating website or social marketing campaign. But it is their fault if they offer high prices and don’t invest their revenue into their quality. Existing customers can see it and new customers will shy away much more easily.
Get back on track
If you are going to have a high quality product or service, make sure you are consistently high quality across the board. If you have great quality and great service only when someone buys your product or service but not when people are researching your company before buying your product or service, you’re doing your business some harm.
